What is the Accelerator programme?

“Through this programme, we have forged enduring professional relationships that empower us to better support our local communities.”

The Accelerator provides a community-led professional learning environment tailored for practitioners within the social sector. It offers a unique space for participants to exchange professional insights while gaining a comprehensive understanding of how various Ōtepoti Dunedin services operate and integrate. The programme involves a commitment of one day per week throughout a 15-week period. This Ōtepoti collaboration is driving meaningful change across the sector, fostering the vital connections and shared best practices required to ensure that tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau thrive.

What do participants learn?

“Participants gain the confidence and robust networks needed to deepen their expertise, ultimately leading to a more integrated and effective approach for the whānau they support.”

"Amazing and unique. 15 weeks professional development is an absolute gift."

At the heart of the Accelerator is the concept of ako, where every participant acts as both a learner and a teacher, contributing their unique experience to the group. We focus on strengthening your integrated practice, helping you develop a holistic view of the individuals you support and a thorough knowledge of the community ecosystem and specialist services available.

The curriculum is designed to strengthen professional relationships and local knowledge, ensuring practitioners can navigate referral pathways and service access with ease. We address key competencies identified by the sector, including trauma-informed practice, community development, and supporting those facing challenges with mental health, disability, neurodiversity, or homelessness.

Graduates of the programme emerge with increased professional confidence and a refined set of skills. They are equipped to work collaboratively and possess the capability to connect people swiftly to the most appropriate services and support networks.
